I have an older reference to the fluid shift that can occur to the fetus when
a laboring mother has IV fluids. It was written when we used dextrose in
these IVs, but may still be of interest. Large fluid shifts can cloud the
true initial weight of the baby as well as the weight loss that occurs when
baby unloads this fluid.
