I seem to remember that there was mention of a possible
connection between cow's milk allergy and reflux. This baby had early
breast milk fortifier (the neonatologist assured the mother, who has a
family history of asthma, that there's no cow's milk in it - is she
steamed now that she's discovered that it did), so has been sensitized to
cow's milk. Does anyone have a reference on this issue, as I couldn't
find it in the archives. TIA, Alicia.
I got backlogged on Lactnet posts, so it has taken me a while to
respond....I don't know about LACTNET references, but I do know that when
my baby was 2 months old, he was diagnosed with reflux (without any real
tests, he just spit up on my pediatrician right after I nursed him) The
pediatrician said he was probably "sensitive to breastmilk," and had a
case of GER. He put my baby on Cisapride, and the spitting up didn't
stop, just ceased to be projectile.
After seeing a list of symptoms for cows milk allergy, I eliminated
cows milk from my diet, and low and behold, the reflux went away also,
within 3 days.
