an OB/GYN practice has asked for an emergancy meeting to discuss
"alternative" medical therapies ie: acidophilus for yeast management,
cabbage leaves for engorgement management, ginger for nausea, and some
other issues discussed by various nurses in our OB unit ie therapeutic
touch, reiki.

The OB at issue with this states their is no scientific basis (research)
for these modalities and since FDA requires approval for drugs etc we
should also fall under the same criteria for our "suggestions"

I am not out to prove anything but, I would like to present the most
current published information if there is anything really "NEW" out there
for cabbage or yeast Letme know asap I am rounding up some articles that
may be more than 3 years old and frankly doesn't excite me as much as know
it will need to for these intensely controlling OB's (with their 40% C/S
rate I would like to ask them about their brand of "alternative medicine"
when it comes to deliveries of infants).

I will let the other folks worry about ginger and echinacea and I know
nothing about reiki yet. But I utilize therapeutic touch in my practice
for babies and new moms and teach it to all the new parents I have contact
with,
