I am working with a mother who gave birth to her 5th child 12/1/97. She
has chronic myelogenous leukemia and has been treated with alpha
interferon (5 million units/ 2 times per week, by injection) during her
pregnancy, and will continue this treatment. She is breastfeeding, but
is concerned about the baby. The OB asked me to try to get information
on this medication and breastfeeding. He is very pro-BF. The family
doctor who will care for the baby is trying to discourage her from BF.
I have contacted the Lactation Study Center at the Univ. of Rochester
(Ruth Lawrence) but have not had a reply as yet.
Anybody and everybody with info, please reply. This is urgent because
the baby is already here. Thanks.
