I can think of two IMPORTANT reasons for a physician to include breast
exams in prenatal visits:
a) (at least once each trimester) to discuss breast changes observed and to
use that time to encourage breastfeeding consideration
b) to check for breast cancer. Yes, it DOES happen during pregnancy and
the sooner it is caught, the quicker it can be dealt with (and possibly
save the mother's life).
