I helped a mother breastfeed with two broken ribs from overenthusiastic
binding by a nurse. She considered suing the hospital and I think they
would have had a hard time justifying the binding, let alone breaking the
ribs. Val, would your hospital like to stand up in court and defend this
practice?

In my BC days when I taught bushwalking and mountaincraft leadership, the
golden rule was "Never do anything you would not want to have to justify
to a coroner's court".  While extreme, it seems to me this is still
a useful rule to live by. All practice and protocols should be defensible
'best practice'.
