Hi all,

I read this in the paper today in the Lawrence Eagle Tribune-Lawrence,Ma:
-Headline- California allows moms to breast-feed anywhere-by Betsy Hart
Score one for the breast-feeding Nazis. They and their political
sisters have won a major victory.
California Gov Pete Wilson signed a law ensuring mothers the right
to breast-feed in any place the are other wise allowed to be.
Magnanimously, the bill allows some, one to say "not here, if your don't
mind" in their own home. Twelve other states already have such laws.
I think breast-feeding babies is wonderful and I've done so with my
own. but a law guaranteeing that any woman at any time in any place- and
in practice-in any manner has a legally protected "right" to breast-feed
her child? As my mother would have said "is nothing sacred?"
In practice it won't matter how careless, flagrant, cavalier, or
downright offensive a woman is, she's has the law on her side in
California. Everywhere, not just in malls and movie theaters, but in
schools, fine restraints, offices, day-care centers, amusements parks,
courtrooms, you name it. What if some man sees his co-worker openly
breast-feeding and feels offended, or decides that this creates a hostile
work environment-can he sue for sexual harassment? hmmm.
This legislation arose out of the fact that a women was escorted out
of a mall for breast-feeding her baby. Perhaps that was unfortunate.
Some stores have created very comfortable breast-feeding lounges.
Either way it seems to me well within the purview of a store, mall,
restaurant or property owner to decide what behavior is acceptable and
what their patrons or visitors will be comfortable with.
But precisely because this involves the vaunted sisterhood and their
breasts, it is politically incorrect to say so.
Betsy Hart, a former White House spokesman, is a weekly commentator
on MS-NBC news.

Could someone please forward this to Lactavist. This woman needs
educating in a big way. I think being called a Nazi is so hurtful and
this type of press so negative.

Jane
