Same here: I started solids when the kids tried to grab it from my plate.
However, since the allergy gene is overpowering in our family, I did go
very prudently: one new food a week, low allergenic foods first (rice,
potatoes, oats, barley... avoiding dairy products, eggs, corn and soy...
and of course, peanuts). I did not avoid food allergies in my kids (two kids
now
allergic to peanuts, one of them also to eggs until three years of age;
she was also allergic to soy-based "fake stuff", i.e. fake hot-dogs fake
cheese, but not tofu or straight soy products) but I did avoid allergic
babies... When the wee one tried grabbing whatever on my plate, he/she
graduated to his/her own chair (sort of) and was fed own meal, but with
the family, as in "sharing the meal".
