Two individuals wrote to me following my posting about the use of Zinc in
women with seriously damaged nipples. Let me restate: I sometimes tell
mothers that ingesting zinc orally, as a mineral supplement, is helpful in
healing damaged tissue. (It is used in sugical and burn units to
facilitate healing). I do not suggest any zinc creams to the nipples. I do
not give babies zinc, but let women know of a nutritional supplement taken
orally for a few days is helpful. Any further questions, please e-mail me.
Thanks, Anne Andrianos, MSN, IBCLC
