The use of zinc (50-100mg/24hr) orally has been helpful to mamy women in
my practice with seriously damaged nipples. Several research studies
testify to the efficacy of zinc in healing sugical sites, burns, etc. The
zinc should only be used for a couple of weeks, then mother weans
gradually from the zinc, usually after the split has closed. Of course,
correct positioning is essential for healing, and a little lanolin is
