Another word from a word listserv that lacto-nuts could find useful:
From: Wordsmith <[log in to unmask]>
ab.ste.mi.ous adj. 1. Eating and drinking in moderation. 2. Restricted to
bare necessities; sparing.[Lat. abstemius : ab-, away + temetum, liquor]
Boris Goodenough? Vol. 337, The Economist, 11-04-1995, pp 51(2).
"His self-discipline seems to be ebbing: he would be less prone to
erratic behaviour if he would only pursue a more abstemious life, yet
he cannot bring himself to do so."
Is it true that some we deal with would have the perspective that infants
should be abstemious? Anyone think ezzo on this one?
Just this week had a mom present with a 3 1/2 month old down to 4, only
four feeds a day, at 8a, 12p, 4p and 8p. She was very hesitant to add
additional feeds because she liked the routine of her day, even tho she had
called with the question of how to increase her supply. Baby had gained 12
ounces in 6 weeks......She said she knew I recommended on demand feeding,
but was there any other way....?
Anyway, I know *I* could/should be a lot more abstemious! ; D!!!
