Holy Toledo. The new AAP guidelines for breastfeeding have been out for
less than 24 hours and are already being mis-reported/misinterpreted in the
news. The following is from a Reuters news story, posted to the web.
>Mothers should try to breast-feed their babies exclusively for at
>least a year if not longer, the largest U.S. pediatricians group said
>Monday, strongly reaffirming its policy favoring the practice.
Of course, the new AAP statement does NOT recommend EXCLUSIVE BREASTFEEDING
for the first year or longer. It recommends exclusive breastfeeding for
"about" the first six months, and then solids should be added while
breastfeeding continues for at least a year if not longer.
