We also struggled with this issue recently. A small committee is presently
trying to advance our practice to eventually become babyfriendly, the
criteria specifically states NO Group Instruction. Maybe this is a good
arguement to present to the program director. I was our program director
(of prenatal classes, not of the unit) and just changed our outline to
reflect BFriendly. We also made a statement in our policy that group
instruction will not be given on formula. This is all very recent, and
could all go hay-wire, especially since I've just resigned my prnatl
director (or coordinator) position. (But not the lactation educator
position).
Our director is adament in stating 'I must remain nuetral in supporting the
bottlefeeding mother and the breastfeeding mother'! So, I also have a
battle here.
Good lucK
