Well...not exactly! I took a day off today to take my family and a few extra
kids to see the Statue of Liberty. I was wearing my ultra-fashionable "Feel
the Love: Breastfeed" T-Shirt. A worker on the ferry came up to me and
said, "I like your shirt. My wife's doing that right now. We have a 3 week
old baby."
I smiled and congratulated the proud papa, who then told me, "It was very
hard in the beginning...".
"I'm glad she kept with it", I encouraged. To which he replied, "We had a
cons..., a couns..., a lact..."
"Lactation Consultant?", I offered.
"That's it!", with relief. She was great. A really nice person, too.
It helped so much to have her. And now breastfeeding is going well."
Isn't that nice to hear? One of us made a difference to the wife of a
maintenance worker on the Liberty Island Ferry and now he is a beaming
breastfeeding advocate as well as a proud papa.
Happy World Breastfeeding Week, one and all.
