I have received this from a Lactnetter whose privacy and personal job
situation have been jeopardized by her words on Lactnet.

Think this over. Is this you? Have you maintained the privacy of this list,
by NOT quoting people without their permission, and out of context at that?

Co-Lactnetters:

It is my understanding that Lactnet is place that we all come to learn,
teach and share. It is also supposed to be a safe place to vent and rant.
I was under the impression that we were fairly free to be candid about our
feelings, hopes, aspirations, experiences, and that such information would
stay "in house."
Except of course, knowing that it is open air, and anyone might by lurking;
and anyone might be quoted at any time.

My faith in our system has been breached. Someone has been in touch with my
direct supervisor to advise/warn her that I have been maligning my
institution in Lactnet. To this person, I say: if you have a problem with
anything I post, you should contact me personally or challenge what I say on
Lactnet itself. If you are going to go behind my back or above my head, you
should quote all my letters, not choose one out of context of the general
tenor.

To all of you, I say, in case you haven't understood this: I am quite proud
of my hospital's system in general, and feel we have much to offer other
Lactnetters, whatever their discipline. But I feel we need also to be
candid about our quirks and flaws -- partly in the hopes that others might
teach us how to get around them/correct them. I think my posts regarding my
institution are about one rant to ten pats on the back.

Since I get many letters privately from other employees of my institution
around the country, and get letters from around the world asking for our
protocols, or who to get in touch with at our institution regarding various
types of information, I am assuming that most of you see me as an advocate
for my hospital, and see my hospital's approach as basically a progressive one.

I am sorry to have to bring this situation to your attention -- but if this
happened to me, it could happen to anyone/everyone else as well. Noone
should find themselves professionally or personally threatened for their
participation in this network -- this is supposed to be a place for mutual
discovery and support.
