My thanks to Dr Jack and the kind LCs who e-mailed me privately with their
experiences and observations on rusty pipe syndrome. The concensus was that
bilateral reddish-brown milk/colostrum in the first few days is not cause
for concern. I'm happy to report that my client's milk has increased in the
past four days sufficiently to fulfil the baby's needs and now contains no
traces of blood, it is "white". Her baby (now 10 days old, effective 33
weeks gestation) has regained her birthweight, started breastfeeding and has
twice taken 35ml at the breast, if she is sleepy she has EBM as necessary by
spoon. What a great resource you all are!
