RE: Pearl Shifer's mom with a 3 month old and reddened areola

Two possibilities:
 (1)
contact dermatitis due to allergic reaction to preservatives or other
components in nystatin cream
 (2)
bacterial infection of nipples

Read Sept 93 JHL for K. Huggins and S. Billion's report on "Twenty Cases of
Persistent Sore Nipples". 8 of those cases were treated with anti-bacterial
topicals, 5 with anti-fungal topicals and 6 with anti-inflammatory topical
alone.

Intensity and duration of pain would make thrush the more likely culprit,
esp. shooting, burning pain after feedings.

Let us know the outcome.
