Why is it any different if a baby is accidently (or on purpose) given
formula than if a patient is given the wrong diet or wrong med?
It would require an incident report in the diet or med mistakes!
My research showed that over 30 + years the amount of BF info known by
nurses hasn't changed. They can still only answer about 1/2 the questions
correctly. My perennial question is - would this shocking lack of
knowledge be tolerated in any other area? Would we let HCPs be 1/2 right
about meds, or diabetes or fetal monitoring or cardiac telemetry or
dialysis? If you pick an area to specialize in (like ICU, CCU, Nephrology,
oncology etc.) then you are expected to acquire specialized knowledge for
that area.
Does anyone have a clue why the OB/perinatal area is any different?
Sincerely, Pat in SNJ
