In response to Ruth Scuderi's alert about Dr. David Paige's comment on milk
allergy, I wrote the following e-mail to Dr. Paige asking for clarification:
To: Dr. David M. Paige
When you made the comment "True milk allergy to human milk or formula
occurs in only 1 percent
to 8 percent of all babies and is not related to lactose intolerance" were
you contending that 1 to 8 percent of infants were allergic to human milk
protein or were you making a more generic statement that would include the
allergy which some infants develop to cow's milk and other foreign proteins
which enter into human milk from maternal ingestion. Please clarify your
statement and provide references regarding allergy to human milk protein.
It is often stated that there is no evidence for allergy to human milk
protein. I know of no evidence of allergy to human milk protein.
