Kathy,
Talc is the main ingredient in talcum powder.  Talc crystals are tiny
little double sided needles, and are therefore dangerous to the lungs,
setting off inflammatory reactions when they lodge in the delicate
alveoli.  If talc is used, it should be carefully poured into the hand
and then rubbed on the body to minimize making it airborne where it can
be breathed.  There are some studies linking talc to vaginal cancer, so
I would hesitate to use it on or around female genitals.
