I'm not on Lactnet this week but I had to ask if anyone has picked up two
new books at the local friendly bookstore remember B & N is like the big
industry chipping away at breastfeeding as the norm.....anyway I was
saddened by two books on prominent display a photo jouranl hardcover of
Mothers and daughters nicely done black and white photos with stories of
famous mothers and daughters the authore's daughters and granddaughter are
on the cover...at first glance across the counter it looks like a neat book
but flipping through it while checking out other books I noticed that NO
WHERE was there a loving picture of a mother nursing her baby girl BUT
there where pictures of bottles even on the front of the book are mothered
nursing infants that rare that not one picture could portray a natural
process I read the riot act to the poor soul at the counter I am sure he
thinks I am wacky.......another sad book called THE HISTORY OF THE BREAST
written by a French woman and all she does is recount the ways men have
dictated to women the function of their breasts to nurse or not to nurse
seems to havcve been controlled by men of the MEdieval times through the
French Revolution the Roring twenties and now to us the sad History of how
women's body parts are relegated to sexual function only so it seems
.......
men don't NEED the breasts and they GET "them",
Babies NEED the breasts and DON"T get them.....but not by their own
desire
