Nofia wants info on how to assist the breast-refusing baby to accept the
breast with feeding tube in place. (May I suggest we stick to descriptions
of the device instead of its brand name. I know using the brand name is
just short-hand, but it's ethically better for us if we do not act as
un-paid marketing reps of any manufacturer.) Anyway, I would try a silicone
nipple shield (newborn, small) for this situation. You have nothing much to
lose as this is a baby who is habituated to bottles, you've tried everything
else, and you are just about to lose the lactation. (One of my primary
rationale-scenarios for using shields.) Maybe you can lure baby back with a
familiar sensation, with tube taped under shield so it is not tickling baby.
If there is a quick milk delivery baby may buy it. Once baby discovers it's
nice being cuddled close and that milk is still easily obtainable you can
disappear the shield. If baby won't buy it without the shield ever, you
still have a baby at the breast. On the milk supply: often, if there was
not good stimulation and regular emptying of the breasts during the
calibration period immed. pp it may be difficult to trigger increased milk
production down the road. Mother must have the willingness to use the
feeding tube device long-term, as it may be that milk supply will not
recover even with baby at breast. I'd try of course, because I've been
fooled a blue million times and never say never.
good luck. These cases are hard!
