I know that mothers currently receiving chemotherapy should not breastfeed.
I need to know whether a mother who received chemo in the past can. Here is
the situation:

Mother-to-be is 16 years old and due soon. At age 5 she contractd Wilms
tumor, and had one kidney and some lymph nodes removed. She then had 1.5
years of chemo. She has been fine since then. She did not tell her family
she was pregnant until her 8th month, but seems OK now that she has been
checked out. She would be interested in breastfeeding the baby, but is
worried that the chemo would still leave residuals in her milk.

I could find nothing about this situation in the archives, and
unfortunately, my textbooks are in storage temporarily so I cannot consult
them.

Does anyone have any experience with former chemo recipients and
breastfeeding? I am assuming having only one kidney is not a problem.

Thanks,

Sue Ann Kendall
