Oh hi, congratulations! (additional yak about due date, birth plans.) I
have great books on pregnancy and bf that I would be happy to lend you.
Oh, what made you decide against breastfeeding?  (validates their
decision) Funny, I used to think that too, but I learned x and really
wound up enjoying bf my children. (opens the door to doubt) I was
surprised how easy it was to feed the baby in bed while I slept (or your
favorite benefit TO MOM).  How about coming Friday morning for a cup of
tea to look over my library?
        This approach has worked with several "laundry room" friends so far.
The key is to remain accepting of the mother's decisions while *gently*
busting the myths about bf.  Most of the time they will realize that
they don't really know much about breastfeeding and are willing to learn
more.  That's the time to get your very favorite literature in their
hands, and/or invite them to meetings.
