I worked with a mom a few years ago who was prescribed Parlodel to help
resolve engorgement. She reported that her milk had "turned to water". On
manual expression this is *exactly* what it looked like, clear and
colourless. If Parlodel (bromocriptine) inhibits prolactin, does this in
turn affect the protein/fat content of breastmilk? Lynette, I would watch
the baby for jaundice if mom is going to continue taking Parlodel and
breastfeed. IMO there are better ways to resolve engorgement (by drainage)
than taking this drug.
By the way, I thought Parlodel had been withdrawn by the FDA for the
suppression of puerperal lactation?? Can someone confirm?
