Chris: Please do reassure this mom that the vaginal dryness is normal for
the stage she is at postpartum. There is absolutely no reason to wean.
Perhaps the doctor is thinking of increased risk of osteoporosis
(publicized a few years back by a NEJM article), but you can present the
articles that show bf decreases the risk of osteoporosis by having the
bones "play catch-up" after the lactational ammenorrhea ceases. To assist
this mom, I would suggest the use of an herbal combination. Vitex/chaste
tree and wild yam taken together have had very favorable responses in
postpartum moms--without endangering milk supply or baby. If you need more
