Judy--your comments about supporting grandmothers for having done the best
they could with the information they had is great. When I have grandmothers
in on consults, I mention this (I always ask if they breastfed). It helps
new mums who are gung-ho breastfeeding advocates to realize they need to go
a little easy on the proselytizing when grandma's around, because for many
of these women, their failed or frustrating breastfeeding experiences are
still painful. And if they never even considered bf, this is sometimes
painful when they realize how wonderful it can be.
