During the week of April 7, 1997, the Oprah Winfrey show devoted a
segment
which addressed the effectiveness of using cabbage leaves to suppress
postpartum breast swelling in new mothers, thus reducing the pain they
often experience due to breast engorgement.

This program segment, along with studies done in Australia and the
United
States, support the use of cabbage leaves to aid in the relief of the
above
conditions.

Pure Necessities, Incorporated (Dallas, TX), has developed Cabbage Gel,
a
product for these new mothers. Cabbage Gel is a soothing, cooling, aloe
vera based gel containing peppermint oil, herbal infusions, and cabbage
extract. Its' purpose is exclusively to cool and soothe the engorged
breast. This gel also helps the cabbage leaf adhere more securely to the
breast. Used alone, it offers topical cooling to the skin. When used in
conjunction with fresh cabbage leaves, speeded relief of breast
engorgement
is frequently observed.
