Hi folks sure has been a long time, missed you all alot! I'm going to try a
little LACTNET to see how I do after severe withdrawal symptoms I feel as
though I'm recovering, I did attend a "meeting" to look at the potential
use of the 12 steps should I need them after exposure to Lactnet once
again....anything no matter how innocent can manifest addictive symptoms if
abused....so here goes nothing.....

32 year old para 3 was seen by me at 5 days postpartum with baby at birth
weight exclusively breastfed. mom a little sore post engorgement but MUCH
better than her last 2 "failures" that lasted all of 3 days....14 and 8
years ago.

Mom reports to me headaches every time she brfeeds on the Rt breast
lasting about 20-30 minutes and severe enough to need pain meds tylenol or
ibuprophen
her BP elevates to 150 /80ish 132/80 when I took it post GREAT Brf episode.

she saw her MD (not her regular one) who recommended she have a CT scan or
MRI to rule out tumor and said he could RX fiorinal w/codein but she would
HAVE to WEAN on that drug and HE PREFERRED she go on BROMOCRIPTINE! yes I
am shouting ONE week post partum a wonderful nursing mother and NOW this!

What should I tell her about the course of "prolactin headaches"?

Mom has NO history of hyperprolactinemia gets pregnant easily and no prior
Hx of hypertension.
She does not want to wean and is proud of herself to be doing so well, are
there other alternatives I can suggest advise? does this sometimes just go
away as she adjusts to the hormonal changes...I hate to see her go on
bromocriptine I told her why it was no longer Rx for new bottle feeding
moms in this area of Florida Wouldn't it be safer to wean with cabbage
rather than risk such a potent drug...heck wouldn't something else do ?

I only had one mom have this problem and she had a pituitary tumor and was
treated with Bromocriptine to get pregnant she Brfed well for a while
until her headaches got too bad to handle..
