From CNN:
Patients who want to know the
recommended treatments for their medical problems will
have a place to turn in cyberspace under a program
announced Wednesday.
A new National Guideline Clearinghouse will post the full
range of treatment guidelines on the World Wide Web, the
Department of Health and Human Services said Wednesday.
The project, expected to be launched in fall 1998, is
being developed with the American Medical Association and
the American Association of Health Plans, which represents
health maintenance organizations and other managed-care
plans.
"Internet technology makes it possible to provide the
rapid access to the latest information on medical
treatments," Health and Human Services Secretary Donna
Shalala said in a statement.
The Web site will offer summaries or full texts of the
recommended treatments for various conditions, compare
different recommendations on similar topics and offer
electronic mailing lists to allow discussions among people
with similar interests.
Does anyone know if these guidelines will include things like normal childbirth
procedures or addressing problems with breastfeeding?
