Janet - I hear what you say about the mothers in your NICU getting the
message that "just" their own milk is not sufficient for their babies when
it has to be mixed with fortifiers. Perhaps you could fundraise for your
NICU person-in-charge to come for an all-expenses-paid holiday to Zimbabwe!
S/he could see the Victoria Falls and en route take in our large government
hospitals, where the babies in the Neonatal Units too small/sick to
breastfeed, but well enough to have milk, receive ordinary ABM until the
mother's milk comes in, (1 - 2 days) but from then on receive their own
mothers' manually expressed breastmilk, usually every two hours, with *no*
additions except perhaps Vit D. The babies thrive! Best of luck.
