What a difficult start for this mum. I feel her chances of
breastfeeding are fairly good - the main concerns would be the
initial blood loss (possible Sheehans Syndrome) and the retained
products, both of which could really affect her supply.
If the baby needs supplemental feeding, I feel that full-strength
artifical milk is better than half strength. A Supply Line (SNS)
shouldn't give 'automatic' food as it should only flow when baby
sucks, rather than being a drip feed, if it is set up correctly. Lots
of skin-to-skin, frequent feeds and pumping if baby is not keen to
feed will help as well.
 If mother had ended up having a hysterectomy it would have made no
difference to her milk supply long term. Ovaries and all other
hormone producing bits are intact.
