OK, Lactnuts!

I've been asked by the clinical educator in our Level 3 NICU for any
articles/research, etc. on the long and short term benefits of getting baby
to breast ASAP in the NICU setting. Specifically, she wants to focus on the
importance of not only breastmilk (excuse me, human milk!) for premies/sick
babies, but also the benefits of actual mother-baby contact. She knows about
Kangaroo care, but wanted to know if breastfeeding specifically has been
proved to have positive impact on baby's growth & development. Do any of you
have citations for this issue at your fingertiops? I'm not quite sure what
words to use to do an archive search. Please post suggestions for those,
too, if you don't know actual articles.

TIA!

Carol (in GORGEOUS, SUNNY St. Louis--thankful to be "off", playing with my
son on spring break!)
