I wonder if any of you have encountered the "give it one more try"
syndrome? What I mean here is that when a mom "fails" at bf and has
another child, is there a small part of her that is having this child to
try bf again? I know this sounds crazy, but I know several women who have
had more children after having c-sections partially to prove that their
bodies "could do it" the "Right" way. I seem to attract these comments
because I advocate heavily for natural child birth in spite of 48 hour
active labors and c-sections myself. My husband has even commented that
the reason he's afraid to have a third child is because of the labor and
delivery scenario. So, what I'm asking is...are there women who feel so
much like they've failed in mothering (like some women do after c-sections)
that they need to do it again to try bf? (And, for those of you who don't
believe that women beat themselves up after a c-section, try reading Silent
Knife and Open Season both by Nancy Wainer-Cohen.) I even once had a mom
say to me "There's two ways to prove that you're a good mother--have a
natural vaginal delivery and/or breastfeed." This woman has had 6
c-sections and swears that her commitment to bf is directly correlated to
her "failure" to birth naturally. (Her words). 'Just curious.
