Judy and Kathy-- I listened to the report yesterday morning on the radio and
wondered if other LCs were thinking what I was thinking :-)
The original article was published May 8, 1997 in the New England Journal of
Medicine and is titled: The Role of Cockroach Allergy and Exposure to
Cockroach Allergen in Causing Morbidity among Inner-City Children with
Asthma. The top authors are listed as David L. Rosenstreich, Peyton
Eggleston, Meyer Kattan, Dean Baker, Raymond G. Slavin, Peter Gergen, Herman
Mitchell, Kathleen McNiff-Mortimer, Henry Lynn, Dennis Ownby, Floyd
Malveaux, for the National Cooperative Inner-City Asthma Study. The
contributing Institutions listed are to numerous to mention here; Dr.
Rosenstreich is affiliated with Albert Einstein School of Medicine in New
York. A summary of the article (and list of authors/institutions) can be
found at http://www.nejm.org/public/1997/0336/0019/1356/1.htm
I'd be interested to know how many of the researchers (there must be some?)
consider "not breastfed" as a component of what I have heard at least one
allergist refer to as "the atopic epidemic."
