I am a La Leche League Leader in New Jersey and have received a question
from a mother through the LLLI HELP FORMS online to which I can find no
specific answer.

This mother is expressing milk for regular separations from her 17 week
old and inquires whether it is okay to mix the EBM with AIM so that baby
doesn't receive all AIM in one feed. She states that both would be
cooled overnight before mixing.

I see nothing in my literature addressing this specifically. Of course,
babies being supplemented with an SNS type device could be injesting
both breastmilk and AIM simultaneously, so I am inclined to assume that
this is not a problem. Knowing full well what happens when I make
assumptions, though, I wanted to check and see if there is any
additional information available about this practice.

I plan to point out to the mother that she may wish to use the EBM separately just so that it does not go to waste if baby doesn't finish the
bottle and the AIM mixed in needs to be discarded. Other than this I've
come up with nothing.

TIA for your help and guidance.
