I was told when my 10lb BW lost a full pound and hadn't gained it back by
two weeks (a mere 9 days from the low weight that's just shy of a 2oz per
day expectation... duh not gonna happen!) that "you can't possibly make
enough milk to feed a baby that size" (wonder how this doc thought 20lb four
month olds get fed???)
He wanted me to give "porridge" of cow's milk and cereal at 15 days old...
un yeah right, NOT!
This kid was a true slow gainer for numerous reasons, but he also learned
the whole alphabet (reading it, mind you not saying it) by 20 months... so
I'd say he got what he needed! But that phrase, "you can't possibly...."
rings in my head to this day and undermined my mothering for years -- only
to be validated when my next, 9lbs, 2oz gained and gained and gained...
This doctor never asked me about anything about my pregnancy, nursing
habits, nothing.... supplement by the scale
I'd say this MD is seated at the right hand of "the alter"
still madder than hell about it!
