it just seems to me that the parallels between the tobacco
>companies in the past and the abm companies is too similar.
I heard a program on NPR recently discussing the history of tobacco use in
the US. One of the men had an ashtray that had been distributed by the AMA
and a certain brand of cigarettes was endorsed through the transparent
bottom of the ashtray. They told of tv and magazine ads in which a doctor
said, "more doctors smoke ___". The men were incredulous and were really
hooting about the unbelievable support of physicians, and how late the AMA
came round to acknowledging harm of the product.
I wondered how long it will be before medical endorsement and promotion of
abm will shock the same public.
