Kathleen,
I am frustrated by this thinking that mother's milk does not come in until
several days later.
At WIC ...... I assure pregnant women that Mother Nature did not mess up and
let you be "milkless" the first days. I tell them that they will not see it
or feel it, but IT IS THERE for the baby !
I tell them it is perfect, it is in the right amounts for that walnut-sized
stomach, it is excellent and it is enough !!! I tell them that it is
concentrated.
I am really up against beliefs in the Spanish speaking cultures and orientals
that think they have no milk. By the time they think they have milk, half of
the babies are nipple confused and refusing the breast. Then I get..... "he
didn't want it".
I tell mother's that they should not be concerned about how much baby is
getting until the 4th day (5th for first baby). Then I tell them to look for
3 or more soiled diapers every 24 hours for a month. Call me if less.
I tell them we are made for twins and our body has to adjust if it is just
one baby...... made that one up !
