Hi all! I am working with a mom who wants to get her hair permed. I
looked in the archives and did see a question about the safety of perms
about a year ago, but there seemed to be no answer given to the issue of
perming (as opposed to coloring the hair, which seemed to be answered). Is
it safe to get her hair permed? Her pedi is very pro-bf and well informed
on the whole. He says he's been told it's not safe but he doesn't know
why. He's even tried calling the usual "warmlines" and such, but nobody
can tell him either why it is *not* safe of that it *is* safe for a
breastfeeding mother to get her hair permed. Does anyone have a definitive
answer? Even, hopefully, some references to pass on to him? He is a very
warm man who is anxious to learn and be even more supportive of bf. In
fact, he comes almost yearly to be the pedi at our Nursing Mother's "Ask
The Doctor" talk! By all definitions, a good man! Please get back to me
as this mom is "more than ready" for a perm and is anxious to know about
its safety. By the way, baby is 6 weeks old if that makes any difference.
Thanks!
Linda V.
