Hi all - just seen Hilary Clinton on the news tonight - visiting Zimbabwe
and touring our Clinics etc to donate Z$4.9 million for family planning
purposes, part of USAID. It so happens that I've been having a fair number
of calls from women who report fussy symptoms and apparent decreased
breastmilk production, it turns out they are taking a mini-pill called
Ovrette (containing 0.075 mcg norgestrel), apparently manufactured by Wyeth,
and that this is cheaply available as part of USAID funding. Symptoms
resolve within 5 days if they stop taking it. Another brand contains the
same progestin, but only O.03 mcg and if a lower dosage is considered to be
effective enough to be marketable, I'm wondering why two-and-a-half times
the dose is necessary. Can anyone tell me if this particular mini-pill is
available in the US? Any other thoughts would be welcome too!
