Hello Lactnetters:
I am an LC in NJ and just came upon a problem. I could use your opinions
about a mom who has been bf for 14 months without problems of any
significance as she tells me (telephone consult only so far).. However, two
months ago she started to have burning pain in one breast "shooting" in from
the nipple right to her back. She also describes pain "all over the breast"
from above breast to the lower margins of breast. Other breast is
asymptomatic. Yes, she saw two doctors who r/o mastitis, candida (no culture
done however).. Nipple is always deep pink in color. Prior to two months
ago, she states she has had no such problem. Doctors tell her there is
"nothing wrong with her, and she should just wean the baby."(Not surprised
are you?) Baby nurses about five times a day and several times a night still
(on both breasts.) Takes a cup and eats well table food. Any thoughts?
