Subject: TV Movie "First do no harm . . . "
Did any of you LactNetters in the US see last night's made-for-TV movie with
Meryl Streep titled "First do no harm . . ." It was about the use of the
ketogenic diet (high fat, low carbos) to control seizures in children... Many
many parallels to the breastfeeding struggle -- or is just that I see
everything through
breast-milk-colored glasses??>>
Yes, saw the movie. Mostly interested in it as a former PICU nurse, and was
well reminded of many sweet children whom I only had an image of as normal
chidren from seeing their pre-illness pictures. I do not remember hearing
anything about the diet as an alternative Tx back then (76-82 Jax FL). I was
wandering if the boy had been breastfed, and how that might effect this
disorder, incidence, course, etc. What if they tried a breastmilk diet,..
hindmilk? My daughter (13yr) has reminded me before that breastmilk does not
cure everything! I must admit skeptisium about her opinion tho.
Big article the next day in the Health Section of the Washington Post about
the ketogenic diet.
