Dr. Newman mentioned one of my pet peeves, NS vs NNS. You can search the
archives for a previous discussion on Lactnet, but I'd just like to state again: I believe this terminology has its place, in the NICU where it
probably began: premies needed NNS and so were given pacifiers (dummies)
to suck on for reasons you all probably are familiar with. How did this terminology then stick to normal full term babies, who, as Dr. Newman said, love to suck for long periods??
NNS is taken out of context when applied to normal healthy babies. It's
another thing to make breastfeeding mothers feel guilty about by the
formula companies. IMO.
