Canadian's aren't the only ones who twist up what is healthy for babies with
pressure from manufacturers. When I was "just a mom" and a home daycare
provider liscensed by the states I lived in the U.S.D.A. food program
required that babies after (I believe) 6 months had to have other food
regardless of how they were fed and breastmilk was not considered milk after
12 months. To have a child enrolled on the program they had to fit into
these guidelines. Example I am caring for and entirely BF infant baby is
given bottles of BM but also has to have food by 6 months and at 12 months
baby must be given cows milk. The only nice thing is that if you had a
supportive peditrician you could override the rules with a doctors note. At
one point when caring for the baby of a single Army enlisted mom, her pedi
wrote off his need for other foods...USDA said they would never do it.
Imagine how puffed up I was when I walked into the office with doctors
letter in hand!!!!!
