Well said, Maureen. It has made me very uncomfortable having our
organization's controversial issues discussed on an open forum. I'll look
forward to ILCA's web page where members can discuss issues in a respectful
manner.

Good solution about grandmothering in current non-IBCLC members but
requiring IBCLC status for future members. ILCA couldn't have required
IBCLCs-only in the early years because there were so few, but the transition
to being a professonal organization for certified lactation consultants is
going to be a bit painful. I couldn't belong to our provincial teacher's
association if I didn't have a teaching certificate, and perhaps the time
has come for our international lactation consultant association to require
certification, as most (all?) professional associations do.
