Hi all - your input would be greatly appreciated. Negotiations have been
protracted, but I've just received confirmation that I will be giving a
2-hour lecture on breastfeeding to second-year physiotherapy students at the
University. There is no set curriculum, I may use my discretion. I am also
to set an exam question for their end-of-year exams. This is a direct
result of a 2-day University Medical School Workshop held last year to which
Felicity Savage-King and Gabrielle Palmer provided input; each department
gave a 10 minute presentation on what was currently taught related to
lactation and breastfeeding (abysmally little!) and then it was decided what
topics should be covered, how much time could be allotted and whether an
exam question should be set to ensure that students would take the subject
seriously.

The lecture is two and a half weeks away! Someone else has lectured on
anatomy and physiology, and emotional/psychological aspects. It is unlikely
that they will need to be convinced of the benefits of b/f. When you
consider that the *minimum* course is thought to be 18 hours I'm dizzy with
all the possibilities! Should I cover what constitutes "normal"
breastfeeding, go through some of the difficulties? What? This is a chance
to say what you think physiotherapists need to know! And if you can send
ideas on how to condense maximum input into a mere two hours I'd really like
it!....
