I have a confession to make. The question from a while ago about the
mother with the sore nipples during Ovulation was me (nursing an almost
3 YO). The responses I received both privately and on Lactnet fell into
4 categories. Yeast, Allergies, Calcium and Magnesium imbalance and
using an herb, but I can't remember which, sorry! (please repost)

Increasing the Calcium and Magnesium helped immediately. Allergies do
apply in our family. And within days of posting here, my ENT finally
cultured my ear which came back Yeast!

I've learned a lot about Yeast this month, and just thought I'd share
with you the different places that moms may be having problems on their
bodies that no one recognizes as Yeast, as well as having problems with
BFing! I went to 5 Dr.s and after 3 years finally figured out it is
Yeast.

I've been reading the LC Series on Candidiasis & BF (Big thank you to
the authors). We are trying to clear Candida from my entire family. I
have it everywhere, even in my EARS and a skin rash behind my knees! My
5.5 YO continually has it on his thumbs (Candida Paronychia).
Occasionally he has a white tongue, ulceration at the corner of his
mouth (Angular cheilitis) and rash around his rectum. My 3 YO has a
gravelly voice of a jazz singer, but it became clear the week he and I
were on Diflucan.

My first visit was to the Dermatologist at 2 MO postpartum (almost 3
years ago) with the rash on my legs, behind my knees, which I now think
is Yeast related. He told me that it was related to nursing and that I
could no nothing to treat it besides using hand lotion to heal the
cracked skin, until I weaned. When I told him that I would BF at least
2 Yrs, he told me to come back then. I called back later to get the
medical name he'd used, but he hadn't writen it in my charts. Now, I
think he was bluffing about knowing what it was. I still have this rash
though it's just red and not itchy and painful now.

I was discussing Yeast with a LC in town, who also has problems with
this. We both have had problems with our heels cracking very deeply and
bleeding. The cracking is similar to the cracking in the corners of the
mouth and the peeling and redness of the thumbs . Is it possible that
the problems with our heels is yet another Yeast problem??? Any one
heard of the voice change problem before?

BTW, tomorrow, my DH, my kids and I all start Diflucan for at least two
weeks as well as using acidophilous and for my DH & I some herbal
treatments. We are also using the information shared by Chris
Hafner-Eaton on changing our hygeine and diet. Wish us luck becoming
Yeast free!
