With the current trend of piercing everything, we will probably run into more
moms who have pierced nipples. Last year, I ran into a mom who pierced both
nipples (her vulva too--I cringe at the thought). During pregnancy, she
seemed to develop a reaction to the rings (no, she would not remove them), so
she replaced them with monofilament (basically the consistency of weed wacker
thread).
Anyhow, she breastfed for nine months with no remarkable difficulties.
Occassionally, milk would drip from the pierce holes, but she had no
problems with milk supply, and would take out the thread periodically
(sometimes for days at a time). When replacing rings, she needed to put a
smaller diameter ring in the right nipple. She theorized that a milk duct
got in the way, and reduced the diameter of the piercing.
Just curious, any other piercing stories out there? Debbie Albert,
IBCLC
