If she had a doctor with a *clue* ....  :(

You aren't missing a thing, and she has plenty of milk.... she just has an
ignorant pediatrician, and no self confidence.

And, since she feels his advice is getting her baby "back to breastfeeding"
 she is following it.  This doctor used scare tactics (baby may suffer
"nerological damage if you don't use this formula.") and the mother is not
able to stand up to him.  I know I would....
